It’s Hop-Tu-Naa…

Hop-tu-Naa is the oldest unbroken tradition in the Isle of Man and is celebrated on 31st October (the date of the Celtic New Year) and pre dates Halloween.
The ancient festival name ‘Hop-tu-Naa’ is commonly thought to be derived from the Manx Gaelic ‘shogh ta’n Oie’, which translates as ‘this is the night’ – which is badass in itself.
The island is home to a large collection of both Celtic and Norse stone crosses, which are insanely cool as they’re carved with the knot work both cultures are famous for. I wanted to incorporate them (also referencing the traditional Jinny the Witch song) along with some very Archibald Knox inspired lettering for this full on Manx piece.
