Hop-tu-Naa is the oldest unbroken tradition in the Isle of Man and is celebrated on 31st October (the date of the Celtic New Year) and pre dates Halloween.
The ancient festival name ‘Hop-tu-Naa’ is commonly thought to be derived from the Manx Gaelic ‘shogh ta’n Oie’,
which translates as ‘this is the night’ – which is pretty badass.
